The Imp Of The Perverse is a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe. ![]() This is a tale of murder and punishment: the anonymous narrator commits a seemingly perfect crime, gets away with it for years, then inexplicably confesses and is condemned to be hanged. He did it in a way that nobody would have thought of doing. Poe is known for his horror stories and murder mysteries, and The Imp of the Perverse flirts with both genres. Poe wrote about a reality, but with a lot of fiction included. Personaly, I think one of the best things about this tale is how he describes everything. About the name, in Spanish it's translated as "the demon of the perversity", but the fact that in English is "imp", and no a demon, is because it really means to this litle imp that tells you to do things that whispers right in your ear and induce you to do things you know are bad, or incorrect. And it just gets better and better. In the end, you understand that the plot is about a person who committed an improper action, and because of that will have severe consequences. The narrator gives examples of that one of them is about procrastination. Then, it starts to talk about the human perversity, and it describe it as an impulse that make us think or do things that we know we shouldn't. In this sense, it mentions that there're two types of people: the intelectual or logical, and the understanding or observant man. ![]() ![]() The begining of the tale is really confusing it starts with a narrator that talks about morality and how God is involved on that.
